The 2024 National and Provincial Elections in South Africa saw a drastic and unprecedented rise in the spread of election-related mis- and disinformation, particularly spread online via social media platforms. A recurring observation shared by a range of different stakeholders was that better coordination and collaboration across different groups and initiatives could play a critical role in enhancing the efficacy and robustness of the work undertaken in advance of the 2026 LGE and beyond.
