Civic Education to Combat Gender-Based Violence
Knowledge, rights, and active citizenship
Civic education to combat gender-based violence is vital because it raises awareness of laws and promotes active citizenship. It equips individuals with knowledge of their rights, responsibilities, and the principles of equality and justice. An informed society is empowered to speak out, report abuse, and hold perpetrators accountable. Discussing the role of civic education in combating GBV highlights that it is not limited to elections and politics. It is a powerful tool for communities to challenge harmful cultural norms and attitudes that perpetuate violence.
