Bleeding With Dignity: Menstruation, Stigma, and Human Rights
Periods are political
Periods are political. This interactive period positivity workshop invites participants to explore menstruation as a human rights issue rooted in dignity, equality, and bodily autonomy. Facilitated by QRATE, the session unpacks how menstrual stigma, silence, and period poverty continue to shape access to education, health, and participation in public life. Through open dialogue and participatory activities, attendees will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences, challenge harmful norms, and reframe menstruation as a shared social responsibility rather than a private burden
QRATE is a South African feminist social justice organisation dedicated to advancing menstrual health and dignity through education, advocacy, and community-led dialogue. Founded by menstrual health activist Candice Chirwa, QRATE works at the intersection of gender justice, health rights, and economic inequality to address period poverty and dismantle stigma surrounding menstruation.
